Description

Der Bologneser Annibale Carracci (1560-1609) gilt neben Caravaggio als Begründer der italienischen Barockmalerei. Unter den 20 überlieferten Radierungen Carraccis wird das überdurchschnittlich große Blatt als grafisches Hauptwerk angesehen. Die dargestellte Szene mit Susanna im Bade nach den Apokryphen zum Buch Daniel (Dan 13,19-23) ist im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert ein sehr beliebtes Bildmotiv.
