Aegidius Sadeler (1570-1629) arbeitete als kaiserlicher Kupferstecher für Rudolph II am Prager Hof. Seine Hasenjagd ist Teil einer Folge von sechs Landschaften nach Roelant Savery (1576-1639), der ebenfalls in Prag tätig war. Im Unterschied zur klassischen Ideallandschaft wird hier die Naturbeobachtung zur Grundlage der Komposition. Savery bereiste zwischen 1606 und 1608 im Auftrag des Kaisers Böhmen und die Tiroler Alpen. Die Naturstudien von dieser Reise verarbeitete Savery später in seinen Bildkompositionen. Bez. u. li.
